A critical SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in version 1.0 of the PHPGurukul Human Metapneumovirus Testing Management System. The issue resides in the '/edit-phlebotomist.php' file, where the 'mobilenumber' parameter is manipulated, allowing attackers to inject malicious SQL queries. This vulnerability can be exploited remotely, without any authentication or authorization.
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows unauthorized access to the application's database, where attackers can leak, modify, or delete data. Additionally, it could lead to full control over the system and disruption of services.
The vulnerability can be reproduced by sending a POST request to '/hmpv-tms/edit-phlebotomist.php' with the 'mobilenumber' parameter. The request should include a crafted SQL payload that exploits the application's SQL query handling. This can be done using tools like sqlmap, which automates the process of finding and exploiting SQL injection vulnerabilities.
To address this vulnerability, developers should implement prepared statements and parameter binding to separate SQL code from user input. Additionally, input validation and filtering should be applied to ensure that data conforms to expected formats, preventing malicious input from being processed. It is also advisable to limit database user permissions to the minimum necessary for operations.
Our algorithm analyzes dozens of metrics to generate these 8 key vulnerability categories, which are then combined to calculate the overall risk score.
