itsourcecode Placement Management System SQL Injection Vulnerability in view_student.php

Vulnerability

A critical SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in the 'itsourcecode Placement Management System' version 1.0. The issue resides in the '/view_student.php' file, where the 'id' parameter is manipulated to inject malicious SQL queries. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to access and manipulate the database, potentially leading to unauthorized data access, data modification or deletion, and disruption of service.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands, appended to the original SQL query of the vulnerable endpoint. This could be used to extract, modify or delete database information. Additionally, according to the MITRE ATT&CK framework, this vulnerability could be exploited to gain unauthorized access to the system and its data.

Reproduction

The vulnerability can be reproduced by sending a GET request to 'view_student.php' with an injected SQL payload in the 'id' parameter. Several types of payloads can be used, including boolean-based blind, error-based, time-based blind, and UNION query injections. This can be done using tools like sqlmap, which automates the process of finding and exploiting SQL injection vulnerabilities.

Remediation

It is recommended to use prepared statements and parameter binding to prevent SQL injection, validate and filter user input, minimize database user permissions, and conduct regular security audits.
