Itsourcecode Placement Management System SQL Injection Vulnerability in edit_profile.php

Vulnerability

A critical SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in the Itsourcecode Placement Management System version 1.0. The issue resides in the edit_profile.php file, where the 'name' parameter is manipulated, allowing attackers to inject malicious SQL queries. This vulnerability can be exploited remotely, leading to unauthorized database access, data manipulation, and potential leakage of sensitive information.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for SQL injection, with impacts including unauthorized database access, data modification or deletion, access to sensitive information, and potential interruption of services.

Reproduction

The vulnerability can be reproduced by sending a POST request to the '/Placement/edit_profile.php' endpoint. The request must include the 'name' parameter with an injected SQL payload, such as a boolean-based blind SQL injection payload. Additional parameters such as 'email' can also be included, but the injection must occur through the 'name' parameter.

Remediation

To address this vulnerability, it is recommended to use prepared statements and parameter binding to prevent SQL injection. Input validation and filtering should be implemented to ensure user input conforms to expected formats. Additionally, minimize database user permissions and conduct regular security audits.
