Essential Blocks WordPress Plugin Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Essential Blocks – Page Builder Gutenberg Blocks, Patterns & Templates plugin for WordPress. This issue affects all versions through 5.4.0 and arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping. The vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access and above to inject arbitrary scripts into pages, which are executed when users view the affected pages. The problem is present in the Slider and Post Carousel widgets.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Contributor-level access or higher can inject scripts through the HTML attributes of the Slider and Post Carousel widgets. The injected scripts will be executed when the page is accessed by a user.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Essential Blocks – Page Builder Gutenberg Blocks, Patterns & Templates plugin to version 5.4.1 or later.
