Liferay Portal and Liferay DXP PostMessage-Based Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability in Fragment Preview Functionality

Vulnerability

A postMessage-based cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability has been identified in the fragment preview feature of Liferay Portal and Liferay DXP. This issue affects Liferay Portal versions 7.4.3.61 through 7.4.3.132, as well as several Liferay DXP 2024 and 2023 versions. The vulnerability allows remote, non-authenticated attackers to inject JavaScript into the fragment portlet URL, potentially leading to malicious script execution.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for cross-site scripting, where an attacker can inject malicious scripts that are executed in the context of the user's browser.

Remediation

Users can upgrade to Liferay Portal's master branch or Liferay DXP versions 2024.Q1.14, 2024.Q4.6, or 2025.Q1.0 to address this vulnerability.
