tawk.to Live Chat Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability has been identified in tawk.to Live Chat version 1.6.1. This issue allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code by injecting malicious scripts into the web application. The vulnerability arises because the application fails to properly validate or encode user-supplied input, which is then stored and displayed to users without adequate sanitization.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the chat.

Reproduction

The vulnerability can be reproduced by injecting HTML tags containing JavaScript into the chat input field. Once submitted, the injected script executes when the message is viewed by another user.
