Smash Balloon Social Post Feed Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Smash Balloon Social Post Feed WordPress plugin, affecting all versions through 4.3.1. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping, allowing authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary scripts via the data-color attribute. These scripts are executed when a user views the affected page.

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Contributor-level access or higher can inject scripts by adding a post or comment that includes a reference to the data-color attribute. Once the content is saved, the injected script will execute when the page is viewed.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Smash Balloon Social Post Feed WordPress plugin to version 4.3.2 or later.
