A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the WordPress Simple Shopping Cart plugin, affecting all versions through 5.1.3. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping of user-supplied attributes in the 'wp_cart_button' shortcode. This vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary scripts into pages, which are executed when users access the affected pages.
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.
To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with contributor-level access can use the 'wp_cart_button' shortcode to add a product to the cart. The user can inject scripts into the 'name' or 'price' attributes of the shortcode, which will be executed when the page is viewed.
Users are advised to update the WordPress Simple Shopping Cart plugin to version 5.1.4 or later.
