Network Posts Extended WordPress Plugin Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Network Posts Extended plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 7.7.1. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping, allowing authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary scripts into pages. These scripts are executed when users access the compromised pages.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Contributor-level access or higher can inject scripts by manipulating the 'post_height' parameter. The lack of proper input sanitization and output escaping in the plugin allows these scripts to be executed when the injected page is accessed.

Remediation

No known patch is available. It is recommended to uninstall the affected plugin and find a replacement.
