SourceCodester Apartment Visitor Management System SQL Injection Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A critical SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in SourceCodester Apartment Visitor Management System version 1.0. The issue resides in the '/view-report.php' file, specifically within the 'MULTIPART fromdate' parameter of a POST request. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to inject malicious SQL queries, exploiting insufficient input validation. As a result, attackers could gain unauthorized access to the database, manipulate or delete data, and access sensitive information.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for unauthorized database access, data manipulation or deletion, leakage of sensitive information, and potential disruption of service.

Reproduction

The vulnerability can be reproduced by sending a POST request to the '/view-report.php' file with the 'MULTIPART fromdate' parameter. The injected payload should include a crafted SQL query that exploits the application's SQL query handling. This can be done using tools like sqlmap, which automates the process of finding and exploiting SQL injection vulnerabilities.

Remediation

It is recommended to use prepared statements and parameter binding to prevent SQL injection. Additionally, input validation and filtering should be implemented to ensure user input conforms to expected formats. Minimizing database user permissions and conducting regular security audits can also help enhance overall security.
