Xagio SEO Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability
Vulnerability
A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Xagio SEO plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 7.1.0.16. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping, allowing unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts via the 'HTTP_REFERER' parameter. These injected scripts are executed when users access the compromised pages.
Impact
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.
Reproduction
To reproduce this vulnerability, an unauthenticated user can send a request to a page that includes the 'HTTP_REFERER' parameter with injected script content. This can be done using a web browser or a tool like cURL or Postman. Once the request is sent, the injected script will be executed when the page is accessed.
Remediation
Users are advised to update the Xagio SEO plugin to version 7.1.0.17 or later.
