Projectworlds Online Doctor Appointment Booking System SQL Injection Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A critical SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in Projectworlds Online Doctor Appointment Booking System version 1.0. The issue resides in the '/patient/patientupdateprofile.php' file, where the 'patientFirstName' parameter is manipulated to inject malicious SQL queries. This vulnerability can be exploited remotely, without any login or authorization requirements, potentially leading to unauthorized database access, data manipulation, and leakage of sensitive information.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for unauthorized access to the database, manipulation or deletion of data, access to sensitive information, and could disrupt services, posing a significant threat to system security and business operations.

Reproduction

The vulnerability can be reproduced by sending a POST request to the '/patient/patientupdateprofile.php' file with a crafted 'patientFirstName' parameter. The injected SQL payload can be designed to exploit time-based blind SQL injection, such as using a SQL injection payload that causes the database to pause execution for a few seconds before responding. This indicates that the injection was successful and can be used to extract database information.

Remediation

To address this vulnerability, it is recommended to use prepared statements and parameter binding to prevent SQL injection, validate and filter user input, minimize database user permissions, and conduct regular security audits.
