Intel Processor Family Privilege Escalation Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A vulnerability allowing improper handling of values in the microcode flow for certain Intel Processor Families could lead to unauthorized privilege escalation. This issue may arise from a complex attack by an SMM adversary with privileged access, potentially exploiting local access with specialized internal knowledge, and requires no user interaction. The vulnerability could impact the system's confidentiality and integrity, albeit at a low level, while availability remains unaffected.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability could allow an attacker to escalate privileges on the affected system.

Remediation

Intel has released microcode updates for the affected processors, available on the public Intel GitHub repository. Users are advised to update to the latest version of firmware provided by their system manufacturer that addresses this issue.
