PHPGurukul Old Age Home Management System SQL Injection Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A critical SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in PHPGurukul Old Age Home Management System version 1.0. The issue resides in the file '/admin/eligibility.php', where the 'pagetitle' parameter is manipulated, leading to unauthorized database access. This vulnerability allows attackers to inject malicious SQL queries, potentially modifying or deleting data and accessing sensitive information. The flaw arises from inadequate input validation, with no authentication required for exploitation.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for SQL injection, enabling attackers to manipulate database queries. This could lead to unauthorized data access, data modification or deletion, and in some cases, executing administrative operations on the database.

Reproduction

The vulnerability can be reproduced by sending a POST request to '/admin/eligibility.php' with the 'pagetitle' parameter. The request should include a payload that exploits the SQL injection, such as one that uses time-based blind SQL injection techniques, like causing the database to sleep for a few seconds before responding.

Remediation

It is recommended to use prepared statements and parameter binding to prevent SQL injection. Additionally, input validation and filtering should be implemented to ensure user input conforms to expected formats. Minimizing database user permissions and conducting regular security audits are also advisable.
