Liferay Portal and Liferay DXP Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability has been identified in Liferay Portal versions 7.4.3.82 through 7.4.3.128, as well as in several releases of Liferay DXP, including 2024.Q3.0, 2024.Q2.0 through 2024.Q2.12, 2024.Q1.1 through 2024.Q1.12, 2023.Q4.0 through 2023.Q4.10, 2023.Q3.1 through 2023.Q3.10, and 7.4 update 82 through update 92. The vulnerability resides in the Frontend JS module's layout-taglib/__liferay__/index.js, where remote attackers can inject arbitrary web scripts or HTML via the toastData parameter.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for cross-site scripting, where an attacker can inject malicious scripts that are executed in the context of the user's browser.

Remediation

Users can upgrade to Liferay Portal 7.4.3.129 or Liferay DXP versions 2024.Q1.13, 2024.Q3.1, or 2024.Q4.0 to address this vulnerability.
