User Profile Builder Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the User Profile Builder plugin for WordPress, specifically in versions through 3.13.5. This vulnerability arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes, allowing authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts. These scripts are executed when a user accesses the affected page.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with contributor-level access or higher can use the WordPress shortcode feature to inject scripts into pages. The lack of proper sanitization and escaping on certain attributes allows these scripts to be executed when the page is viewed.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the User Profile Builder plugin to version 3.13.7 or later, where this vulnerability has been fully patched.
