WeGIA Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability in Control.php Endpoint

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the WeGIA application, specifically within the control.php endpoint. This issue allows attackers to inject malicious scripts into the 'cargo' parameter, which are then stored on the server. The injected scripts are executed automatically when the affected page is accessed by users, creating a significant security risk. The vulnerability arises from the application's failure to properly validate and sanitize user inputs, enabling the injection of harmful scripts that can compromise user data and systems.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user accessing the affected page. This could lead to session hijacking, downloading of malware, browser hijacking, credential theft, exposure of sensitive information, website defacement, misdirection of user behavior, and reputational damage to organizations.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, send a POST request to the '/controle/control.php' endpoint with a payload in the 'cargo' parameter that includes a script tag, such as '<script>alert(8)</script>'. The injected script will be executed when the page is accessed, demonstrating the cross-site scripting vulnerability.

Remediation

Users are advised to upgrade to WeGIA version 3.2.6 or later, where this vulnerability has been addressed.
