WeGIA Reflected Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability in tags.php Endpoint

Vulnerability

A reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the WeGIA application, specifically within the tags.php endpoint. This issue arises because the application does not properly validate or sanitize user inputs in the msg_e parameter, allowing attackers to inject malicious scripts. These scripts are then executed in the context of the user's browser. The vulnerability affects WeGIA versions prior to 3.2.6 and has been addressed in version 3.2.8. Users are advised to upgrade.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for reflected cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user's browser. This can lead to various consequences, such as stealing cookies, executing malicious code on the user's system, or compromising accounts by manipulating confidential information.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, send a GET request to the WeGIA application’s tags.php endpoint with a crafted msg_e parameter that includes a script tag. The injected script will be executed in the context of the victim's browser.

Remediation

Users are advised to upgrade to WeGIA version 3.2.8, where this vulnerability has been patched.
