Linux Kernel L4 Checksum Offload Vulnerability in Net Libwx

Vulnerability

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's networking component, specifically in the libwx library, has been addressed. The issue arose because the hardware only supports Layer 4 (L4) checksum offload for TCP, UDP, and SCTP protocols. A bug caused the transmission (Tx) checksum flag to be incorrectly set for other protocols, leading to a hang in the Tx ring. The vulnerability has been fixed by implementing a software checksum calculation for these affected packets.

Impact

The vulnerability could cause a hang in the transmission ring, disrupting network communication.
