Linux Kernel nfsd Procedure Registration Return Code Handling Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's NFS server component (nfsd) has been addressed. The issue arose because the NFS procedure for statistics initialization (nfsd_proc_stat_init()) did not properly handle the return value of the procedure registration function (svc_proc_register()). This oversight meant that if the creation of a proc file failed, the kernel would issue a warning when attempting to remove the entry later. The vulnerability could lead to a denial-of-service condition by causing unnecessary kernel warnings.

Impact

The vulnerability could lead to a denial-of-service condition by causing unnecessary kernel warnings.
