Linux Kernel Filemap Truncation Vulnerability Leading to Infinite Loop on XFS Filesystem

Vulnerability

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's filemap handling has been addressed. On 32-bit kernels, the function folio_seek_hole_data() was unintentionally truncating a 64-bit offset value to 32 bits. This truncation could cause a potential infinite loop when writing to an XFS filesystem.

Impact

The vulnerability could lead to an infinite loop condition when writing to an XFS filesystem on 32-bit kernels.
