ArielBrailovsky ViralAd WordPress Plugin SQL Injection Vulnerability
Vulnerability
A SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in the ArielBrailovsky-ViralAd plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 1.0.8. The vulnerability arises in the 'limpia()' function, where insufficient escaping of user-supplied 'text' and 'id' parameters allows unauthenticated attackers to inject additional SQL queries. This exploitation could lead to the extraction of sensitive information from the database. Notably, the vulnerability seems to be exploitable only on very old WordPress versions.
Impact
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for SQL injection, where attackers can manipulate SQL queries to access or modify database information. In this case, it could be used to extract sensitive data from the database.
Reproduction
To reproduce this vulnerability, send a request to the WordPress site with the 'text' or 'id' parameters. The 'limpia()' function will process these parameters without proper sanitization, allowing for the injection of malicious SQL code. This vulnerability can be exploited on WordPress versions prior to 3.2.1.
Remediation
No known patch is available for this vulnerability. It is recommended to uninstall the affected plugin and find a replacement.
