Cisco Enterprise Chat and Email Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the web UI of Cisco Enterprise Chat and Email (ECE). This issue allows an unauthenticated, remote attacker to execute arbitrary script code in the context of the affected interface or access sensitive, browser-based information. The vulnerability arises because the web UI fails to properly validate user-supplied input. Exploitation requires valid agent credentials and involves persuading a user to click a crafted link.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user interface.

Remediation

Cisco has released software updates to address this vulnerability. Users can upgrade to Cisco ECE version 12.6(1)_ES11. For versions 11 and 15, consult the Cisco Security Advisories page for guidance on upgrading.
