A heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability allowing remote code execution has been identified in Ashlar-Vellum Cobalt, specifically within the VC6 file parsing process. The vulnerability arises from inadequate validation of user-supplied data lengths before copying them to a heap-based buffer. Exploitation of this vulnerability requires user interaction, as the target must open a malicious file or visit a harmful webpage.
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for arbitrary code execution on the affected system, with the executed code running in the context of the current process.
Our algorithm analyzes dozens of metrics to generate these 8 key vulnerability categories, which are then combined to calculate the overall risk score.
