A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Real Cookie Banner: GDPR & ePrivacy Cookie Consent WordPress plugin, as well as the real-cookie-banner-pro WordPress plugin, both prior to version 5.1.6. The issue arises because the plugins do not properly sanitize and escape certain settings, allowing high-privilege users, such as administrators, to execute stored cross-site scripting attacks. This vulnerability is particularly concerning in multisite setups, where the unfiltered_html capability is restricted.
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user.
Users are advised to update to version 5.1.6 or later.
