Quiz Maker WordPress Plugin Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Quiz Maker WordPress plugin, affecting versions prior to 6.7.0.89. The issue arises because the plugin fails to properly sanitize and escape certain settings. This flaw enables high-privilege users, such as administrators, to execute stored XSS attacks, even in environments where the unfiltered_html capability is restricted, such as multisite setups.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, navigate to the Quiz Maker > General Settings > Erase Quiz Data. Input a numeric value, then intercept the request and modify the values of 'ays_answer_default_count', 'ays_right_answer_sound', or 'ays_wrong_answer_sound' to include a crafted payload, such as a script injection. Send the request, and the injected script will be executed, demonstrating the stored XSS vulnerability.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Quiz Maker WordPress plugin to version 6.7.0.89 or later.
