FiboSearch Ajax Search for WooCommerce Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the FiboSearch – Ajax Search for WooCommerce plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 1.32.0. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes, particularly within the 'thegem_te_search' shortcode. This vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary scripts into pages, which are executed when users access the affected page. The vulnerability requires the TheGem theme (premium) with Header Builder mode enabled, and the FiboSearch 'Replace search bars' option activated for TheGem integration.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Contributor-level access or higher can use the 'thegem_te_search' shortcode while the TheGem theme is active with Header Builder mode enabled. After inserting the shortcode, the user can inject scripts that will be executed when the page is accessed.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the FiboSearch – Ajax Search for WooCommerce plugin to version 1.32.1 or later.
