WP Maps Plugin Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the WP Maps – Store Locator, Google Maps, OpenStreetMap, Mapbox, Listing, Directory & Filters plugin for WordPress. This vulnerability affects all versions through 4.8.7 and is caused by inadequate input sanitization and output escaping of user-supplied shortcode attributes in the 'put_wpgm' shortcode. As a result, authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher can inject arbitrary web scripts into pages, which will execute when a user accesses the affected page.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the WP Maps – Store Locator, Google Maps, OpenStreetMap, Mapbox, Listing, Directory & Filters plugin to version 4.8.8 or a newer patched version.
