A SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in the itsourcecode Online Voting System version 1.0, specifically within the login.php file. This vulnerability arises from inadequate validation of user input in the 'username' parameter, allowing attackers to inject malicious SQL queries. Exploitation of this vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to the database, manipulation or deletion of data, and exposure of sensitive information.
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for SQL injection, enabling attackers to interfere with the application's database queries. This could result in unauthorized data access, data manipulation, and in some cases, executing administrative operations on the database.
The vulnerability can be reproduced by sending a POST request to the Voting/ajax.php?action=login endpoint with an injected SQL payload in the username parameter. The injection can be crafted to exploit time-based blind SQL injection techniques, such as using the MySQL SLEEP function to delay the response and indicate successful exploitation.
It is recommended to use prepared statements and parameter binding to prevent SQL injection vulnerabilities. Additionally, input validation and filtering should be implemented to ensure user input conforms to expected formats. Minimizing database user permissions and conducting regular security audits can also help enhance the application's security.
Our algorithm analyzes dozens of metrics to generate these 8 key vulnerability categories, which are then combined to calculate the overall risk score.
