aThemes Addons for Elementor Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability in Call to Action Widget

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the aThemes Addons for Elementor plugin for WordPress, affecting versions through 1.1.5. The issue arises in the Call To Action widget, where inadequate input sanitization and output escaping allow authenticated attackers with contributor-level or higher permissions to inject arbitrary scripts. These scripts are executed when a user accesses the affected page.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with contributor-level or higher permissions can inject scripts into the Call To Action widget by exploiting the lack of proper input validation. Once the scripts are injected, they will be executed when the page is viewed by any user.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the aThemes Addons for Elementor plugin to version 1.1.6 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched.
