Hubbub Lite WordPress Plugin Reflected Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Hubbub Lite WordPress plugin, specifically in versions through 1.36.0. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping, allowing unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts. This injected script could be executed on pages if the attacker successfully convinces a user to click a link.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for reflected cross-site scripting, where an attacker can inject scripts that are executed in the context of the user's browser.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, send a request to the WordPress site with the 'dpsp_list_attention_search' parameter. The absence of proper input sanitization will allow the injection of scripts, which will be executed if the user is tricked into clicking a link.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Hubbub Lite WordPress plugin to version 1.36.1 or a newer patched version.
