Omnipress WordPress Plugin Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Omnipress plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 1.6.3. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping, allowing authenticated attackers with Author-level access or higher to upload SVG files containing malicious scripts. These scripts are executed when a user accesses the SVG file.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the affected page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Author-level access or higher can upload an SVG file through the WordPress REST API. The uploaded file must contain malicious JavaScript, such as a script that creates an alert box. Once the file is uploaded, the injected script will execute whenever the SVG file is accessed.

Remediation

No known patch is available for this vulnerability. It is recommended to uninstall the affected plugin and find a replacement.
