Orbit Fox Companion Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Orbit Fox Companion WordPress plugin, specifically in versions through 3.0.2. This vulnerability arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping, allowing authenticated attackers with Author-level access or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts. The injected scripts are executed when users access the affected pages.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Author-level access or higher can inject scripts through the category and tag 'name' parameters. The absence of proper input validation and output encoding in these fields facilitates the injection of malicious scripts, which are then executed when the injected content is viewed.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Orbit Fox Companion plugin to version 3.0.3 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched.
