Tag, Category, and Taxonomy Manager – AI Autotagger with OpenAI SQL Injection Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in the Tag, Category, and Taxonomy Manager – AI Autotagger with OpenAI plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 3.40.0. The vulnerability arises from inadequate escaping of user-supplied data in the 'post_types' parameter, coupled with a lack of proper preparation for the SQL query. This flaw enables authenticated attackers with Editor-level access or higher to inject additional SQL commands into existing queries, potentially leading to the extraction of sensitive information from the database.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for SQL injection, where an attacker can manipulate database queries to access or modify sensitive information.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Editor-level access or higher can send a request that includes the 'post_types' parameter with unsanitized data. The injected SQL code can then be executed in the context of the application's database queries, allowing the attacker to access sensitive information.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the plugin to version 3.40.1 or a newer patched version.
