Slippy Slider WordPress Plugin Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Slippy Slider – Responsive Touch Navigation Slider plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 2.0. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping of user-supplied attributes in the plugin's 'slippy-slider' shortcode. This vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access and above to inject arbitrary scripts into pages, which are executed when users access the affected page.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with contributor-level access or higher can use the 'slippy-slider' shortcode to create a slider. During the creation process, the user can inject JavaScript into the slider's description or other fields that are not properly sanitized. Once the slider is saved and viewed on the site, the injected script will execute, demonstrating the cross-site scripting vulnerability.

Remediation

No known patch is available for this vulnerability. Users are advised to review the vulnerability details and consider uninstalling the affected plugin.
