The issue arises from the plugin's failure to properly sanitize user input or escape output when the 'type' attribute is embedded into the 'class' attribute in the rendered HTML. This vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access and above to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages, which are executed when users access the injected pages.
