The issue arises from the plugin's failure to properly sanitize the 'book_author' post meta before displaying it via the '[book_author]' shortcode. This flaw allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary scripts into pages, which are executed when users view the affected pages.
