XX2WP Integration Tools WordPress Plugin Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the XX2WP Integration Tools plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 1.9.9. The issue arises from the plugin's failure to properly sanitize user input and output of the 'post_id' parameter in the 'mxp_fb2wp_display_embed' shortcode. This vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access and above to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages, which are executed when users access the affected pages.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with contributor-level access or higher can use the 'mxp_fb2wp_display_embed' shortcode, injecting a 'post_id' parameter that contains the unsanitized script. Once the shortcode is processed, the injected script will execute when the page is viewed.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the XX2WP Integration Tools plugin to version 2.0.0 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched.
