Code-Projects Project Monitoring System SQL Injection Vulnerability in User Edit Function

Vulnerability

A SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in version 1.0 of the Code-Projects Project Monitoring System. The issue arises in the useredit.php file, where the uid parameter is manipulated, allowing attackers to inject malicious SQL queries. This vulnerability can be exploited remotely, without any authentication, and has been publicly disclosed along with an available exploit.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for unauthorized access to the application's database. Attackers could exfiltrate sensitive information such as user credentials and personal data, manipulate or delete database records, and disrupt the application's normal operations.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, send a POST request to useredit.php with the uid parameter. The request can be made using a tool like sqlmap, which will automate the injection process and exploit the vulnerability.

Remediation

It is recommended to use prepared statements and parameter binding to prevent SQL injection. Additionally, input validation and filtering should be implemented to ensure that user input meets expected formats, blocking malicious data. Finally, database user permissions should be minimized, granting only the necessary access rights.
