Asgaros Forum SQL Injection Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in the Asgaros Forum plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 3.1.0. The issue arises from inadequate escaping of user-supplied data in the '$_COOKIE['asgarosforum_unread_exclude']' cookie, allowing unauthenticated attackers to inject additional SQL commands into existing queries. This exploitation could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive information in the database.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for SQL injection, where an attacker can manipulate database queries to extract sensitive information from the database.

Reproduction

The vulnerability can be reproduced by sending a request with a crafted '$_COOKIE['asgarosforum_unread_exclude']' cookie that includes malicious SQL payloads. The injected SQL is then executed by the application, potentially allowing the attacker to access or manipulate database information.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Asgaros Forum plugin to version 3.2.0 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched.
