WordPress Community Events Plugin SQL Injection Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in the Community Events plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions up to and including 1.5.1. The vulnerability arises from inadequate escaping of user-supplied data in the event_category parameter, allowing authenticated attackers with Subscriber-level access or higher to inject additional SQL queries. This exploitation could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive information in the database.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for SQL injection, where an attacker can manipulate database queries to extract sensitive information from the database.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Subscriber-level access or higher can send a request to a vulnerable WordPress site with the 'event_category' parameter. The lack of proper input sanitization will allow the injection of malicious SQL code, which could be executed by the database, potentially leading to unauthorized data access.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Community Events plugin to version 1.5.2 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched.
