WordPress Community Events Plugin SQL Injection Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in the Community Events plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 1.5.1. The vulnerability arises from inadequate escaping of user-supplied data in the 'event_venue' parameter, allowing authenticated attackers with Subscriber-level access or higher to inject additional SQL queries. This exploitation could lead to unauthorized access and extraction of sensitive information from the database.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for SQL injection, where an attacker can manipulate SQL queries to extract sensitive data from the database. In the context of WordPress, this could include accessing user information, site content, or other critical database records.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Subscriber-level access or higher can send a request to a vulnerable WordPress site with the 'event_venue' parameter. The injected SQL code can then be executed to manipulate the database queries and extract sensitive information.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Community Events plugin to version 1.5.2 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched.
