Bit Assist WordPress Plugin SQL Injection Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A time-based SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in the Bit Assist plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 1.5.2. The vulnerability arises from inadequate escaping of user-supplied data in the 'id' parameter, allowing authenticated attackers with Subscriber-level access or higher to inject additional SQL queries. This exploitation could lead to the extraction of sensitive information from the database.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for time-based SQL injection, where an attacker can manipulate SQL queries to extract data from the database. In this case, the vulnerability could be used to retrieve sensitive information.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with Subscriber-level access or higher can send a request to the WordPress site with the 'id' parameter. The lack of proper input sanitization allows for the injection of malicious SQL that could be executed by the database, potentially leading to unauthorized data access.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Bit Assist WordPress plugin to version 1.5.3 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched.
