Welcart e-Commerce Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Welcart e-Commerce plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 2.11.9. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping, allowing unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary scripts into pages. These scripts are executed when users access the compromised pages.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an unauthenticated user can inject a script into the 'name' parameter, which is not properly sanitized or escaped. This can be done by accessing a page that includes this parameter, such as through a form or a URL that allows for input. Once the script is injected, it will be executed whenever the page is accessed by any user.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Welcart e-Commerce plugin to version 2.11.10 or later.
