Arm Mali Valhall and 5th Gen GPU Architecture Kernel Drivers Use-After-Free Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A use-after-free vulnerability has been identified in the Arm Mali Valhall GPU Kernel Driver and the Arm 5th Gen GPU Architecture Kernel Driver. This vulnerability allows a local, non-privileged user process to access already freed memory by performing improper GPU memory processing operations. The issue affects the Valhall GPU Kernel Driver in versions from r29p0 prior to r49p3 and from r50p0 prior to r53p0, as well as the Arm 5th Gen GPU Architecture Kernel Driver in versions from r41p0 prior to r49p3 and from r50p0 prior to r53p0.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to freed memory, potentially allowing for memory corruption or other unintended behavior in the system.

Remediation

Users are advised to upgrade to the latest applicable version of the Mali GPU Kernel Driver. The fixed versions for the Valhall GPU Kernel Driver and the Arm 5th Gen GPU Architecture Kernel Driver are r49p4 and r54p0. Instructions for downloading the latest drivers are available on the Arm Mali Driver Downloads page.
