WordPress Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability in Multiple Plugins
Vulnerability
A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in several WordPress plugins, including Envira Gallery Lite and Getwid, all utilizing a vulnerable version of the FancyBox JavaScript library. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping of user-supplied attributes, allowing authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary scripts. These scripts are executed when a user accesses the affected page.
Impact
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.
Reproduction
To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with contributor-level access or higher can inject scripts through user-supplied attributes in the affected WordPress plugins. Once injected, these scripts will execute when the page is accessed by any user.
Remediation
Users are advised to update to the latest versions of the affected plugins. For Envira Gallery Lite, the patched version is 1.8.16. For Getwid, the latest version should be checked on the WordPress Plugin Directory.
