Fortinet FortiOS Stack-Based Buffer Overflow Vulnerability Allowing Arbitrary Code Execution

Vulnerability

A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability has been identified in Fortinet FortiOS versions 7.2.4 through 7.2.8 and 7.4.0 through 7.4.4. This vulnerability allows remote, unauthenticated attackers to execute arbitrary code or commands by sending crafted UDP packets through the CAPWAP control. The exploitation requires evading FortiOS stack protections and the fabric service must be running on the exposed interface.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability could lead to arbitrary code execution on the affected device.
