Counter Box WordPress Plugin DOM-Based Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

A DOM-based stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Counter Box: Add Engaging Countdowns, Timers & Counters to Your WordPress Site plugin, affecting all versions through 2.0.6. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping, allowing authenticated attackers with administrator-level access to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages. These scripts would execute when a user accesses the compromised page. This vulnerability is present only in multi-site installations where unfiltered_html has been disabled.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for DOM-based stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the affected page.

Remediation

Users are advised to update the Counter Box WordPress plugin to version 2.0.7 or a newer patched version.
