A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Pure Chat – Live Chat & More! WordPress plugin, affecting all versions through 2.4. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping, allowing unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts. These scripts would execute when a user accesses the compromised page.
Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.
To reproduce this vulnerability, an unauthenticated user can inject a script into the 'purechatWidgetName' parameter. This can be done by accessing the Pure Chat admin page and selecting a chat widget. Once the widget is selected, the injected script will be executed when the page is viewed.
Users are advised to update the Pure Chat WordPress plugin to version 2.41 or later.
