Coaching Staffs WordPress Plugin Stored Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Vulnerability

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in the Coaching Staffs plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions through 1.4. The issue arises from inadequate input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes, particularly within the 'mstw-cs-table' shortcode. This vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary scripts into pages, which are executed when users access the affected pages.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows for stored cross-site scripting, where injected scripts are executed in the context of the user viewing the page.

Reproduction

To reproduce this vulnerability, an authenticated user with contributor-level access or higher can use the 'mstw-cs-table' shortcode. The absence of proper input sanitization and output escaping on the attributes provided to this shortcode allows for the injection of malicious scripts. Once injected, these scripts will execute whenever a user views the page containing the shortcode.

Remediation

No known patch is available. It is recommended to uninstall the affected plugin and find a replacement.
